MANILA, Philippines — Filbar’s was the go-to place of Filipino comic book enthusiasts in the 1980s. What started as a shop in Greenhills selling back issues of comics became a well-loved brand that offered new comic book series. Many of today’s comic artists and writers were its young loyal customers.
However, with tough competition, Filbar’s status as geek haven dwindled and it became known mostly for selling magazines. In 2013, a group of friends, took over the company and rebranded it to adapt to the new generation of comic book fans.
The company has since reclaimed the status as one of the leading comic book store chains in the country.
Chief Creative Officer Ivan Guerrero said the new Filbar’s “focuses mainly on building the geek crowd here in the country.”
It carries comic books from local and international authors, statues, figures, bobble heads, shirts, bags, caps and other.
